Philippines’ First Lady explores traditional flower market in Hanoi



The market offers a wide selection of popular flowers for the Tet holiday, the biggest celebration in Vietnam. Some of the flowers available include peach flowers, kumquats, dahlias, violets, gladioluses, and narcissuses.

Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his spouse are on a State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong.


Peach blossoms are believed to bring good luck, happiness, and prosperity in the new year.


First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos is delighted to learn about Vietnamese peach blossoms and receives a small branch of peach blossom from the spouse of the Vietnamese President.


The two First Ladies take a stroll along Hang Ma street, which offers a variety of Tet items for home decorations.


The street is beautifully decorated with festive items, especially during the Tet holiday.


Both First Ladies are introduced to the history of Hang Trong folk paintings, a traditional genre of Vietnamese woodcut paintings originating from Hanoi.


They then enjoy sipping tea while listening to stories about traditional Vietnamese houses.

Vietnam discovers 2,000-year-old stringed instrument

Discovered along the Mekong River in southern Vietnam, the 2,000-year-old instrument resembles a single-stringed harp and may have been an ancestor to the complex musical instruments people still plucked today in Vietnam, according to UK-based science website IFLScience . The artifact consists of a 35-centimeter piece of deer antler with a hole at one end for a peg, which was likely used to tune the string. The antler most likely came from a Sambar deer or an Indian hog deer, two species native to mainland Southeast Asia. While the string seems to have eroded away long ago, the instrument features a bridge that was perhaps used to support the string. Lead researcher and Ph.D. student Fredeliza Campos from the Australian National University said the artifact is at least 2,000 years old — dating back to Vietnam’s pre-Oc Eo culture along the Mekong River, which is exceptionally early for this kind of instrument. The Vietnamese Government has issued Decree 5/2024/ND-CP, which includes special preferential import tariffs for Cambodian goods.
